  • This decade-long era of Queensrÿche is arguably the most depressing period in the band’s history. It began in 2003, when after former guitarist and founding member of Queensrÿche, Chris DeGarmo, left the recording sessions for Tribe prematurely (see the end of the Operation I section for details). A couple of years prior, the band had allowed the firing of manager Ray Danniels and later, Lars Sorenson (who co-managed with Susan Tate – Geoff’s wife). Susan Tate (whose previous experience was managing her ex-husband Jason Ames and heading up Queensrÿche’s fan club, but prior to that worked as a stripper) ultimately took over band management duties.

Bringing in session player Mike Stone (who had contributed some music to the Tribe album prior to DeGarmo rejoining his former bandmates in 2002) to handle the guitar duties, the band toured for more than a year. They put out a live recorded called Art of Live in 2004 (The video was highly criticized for being in sepia tone instead of full color and for having been mixed poorly) before deciding to record another studio album in 2005.
