Slave to the SystemSlave to the System was originally formed in early 2001 in Seattle, Wash. Then-Queensr˙che guitarist Kelly Gray had invited Damon Johnson and Roman Glick (Brother Cane) up to Seattle to jam during a break. Guitarist Scotty Heard, and Queensr˙che drummer Scott Rockenfield joined them for a week-long session that resulted in an inspiring chemistry. Sounding very much in the Brother Cane vein, the band also had a flair for aggressive guitar work with some grunge/punk influences. A debut album was recorded in that week. That album was released independently in 2001, strictly through an online venue. The band performed a few shows in 2002 to showcase its music. After taking notice, Spitfire Records signed Slave to the System, and the band re-released its self-titled release in 2006, with a slightly altered tracklisting. Guitarist Scotty Heard, however, had left the band prior to that deal. His vocal parts were taken over by Kelly Gray, and the band went on a brief club tour in late winter/early spring 2006 in support of it. The band's lineup consists of the following people: Damon Johnson (lead vocals, guitar) During the April 2006 slate of dates, Allen Park filled in on bass for Roman Glick, due to Roman's committments with Jackyl. Similarly, beginning with the April 18, 2006 show, Billy Wilkes filled in on drums for Scott Rockenfield for the remaining dates, due to Rockenfield's committments with Queensr˙che.
