Geoff Tate's self-titled solo release is an eclectic album based around the singer's broad array of influences. From 1950s pop to the mid-1990s grunge movement, Geoff Tate is a radical departure from Queensr˙che, although it maintains some familiar melody choices, as those found on "Off the T.V." and "Over Me." Fans of pop-progressive writers such as Peter Gabriel would find this record to be of note
Geoff Tate was also released in a 5.1 Surround DVD-A format, and selected tracks were also combined with various cuts from Queensr˙che's Tribe for the compilation release Face to Face in 2006 on Sanctuary Records.
